Hackathon in Naples or research retreat in Essen: go abroad with Aurora
Take advantage of the new opportunities for mobility within the Aurora alliance and go to Italy or Germany for study experiences. You can participate in a hackathon in Naples focused on the future of food systems in times of climate and societal change (for all students) or in an international academic retreat in Essen, where early-stage researchers develop presentation and communication skills (for PhD students and master’s students in their final year).
BIP Seismic hackathon “Rethinking Food Systems in the Anthropocene” – University Federico II. of Naples
- Intended for: all students of all forms of study
- Physical part: 19.10.-23.10.2026, Naples, Italy
- Online part: 28.9.2026, 16.10.2026
- Number of credits: 3 ECTS
- A maximum of 5 students will be selected, whose mobility will be financed from the Aurora project
Course description:
The hackathon aims to offer participants a design-based learning experience that will focus on some of the most pressing challenges today: climate change, the exploitation of labor and territory by global agribusiness, and deepening socioeconomic inequalities.
Anthropogenic climate change, species extinction and other environmental factors associated with the Anthropocene will fundamentally transform the conditions under which food is produced, distributed and consumed in the coming decades. At the same time, we are witnessing the emergence of new business models in the food economy, which are increasingly taking into account environmental and social issues.
While digital technologies — from drones and precision agriculture to e-commerce platforms and delivery applications — are significantly transforming food production and distribution, a parallel trend is also developing: a renewed interest in traditional foods and artisanal production methods, valued for their specific taste, aesthetics and cultural value.
In light of these current transformations, you will address Naples’ food economy – working in interdisciplinary teams on systemic project proposals that will promote environmental resilience and social justice, while being economically and organizationally feasible.
